AES's busy summer with JCPS

AES’s relationship with Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) goes back 20 years. For the last five of those years, AES has been an integral part of the school system’s largest renovation projects. With 101,000 students, the JCPS system is the 27th largest district in the nation, and its enrollment is expected to climb to 102,250 within the next four years. Throughout this growth, AES is leading the way to help JCPS meet its expanding demand.

Summer months are the busiest for JCPS renovation projects, and AES is working on four of its largest projects for 2016.

  • Fern Creek High School — This is a 247,000 sq. ft. remodel project. It includes demolition of the existing electrical service and replacement with a new, more energy efficient switchgear system, upgraded LED lighting, and numerous other high-tech features.
  • DuPont Manual High School/Youth Performing Arts School (YPAS) — Phase 1 of this project consists of a major HVAC renovation that will include replacement of exterior windows, doors, roof, and elevator. AES is also performing interior modifications that include floors, ceiling and lights, painting, and fixtures. We are installing new fire sprinklers, switchgear, communications and security, parking lots, roadways, site lighting, and storm and sanitary sewer lines. Capping off the remodel is a new state-of-the-art theater with advanced lighting controls, a must for this school.
  • Butler Traditional High School — This project consists of a 210,238 sq. ft. major phase I renovation to the school’s HVAC and will include security upgrades and new exterior windows, doors, and roof. Interior modifications to the school include updated floors, ceiling, lights, paint, and fixtures. We will also install new fire sprinklers, switchgear, plumbing, elevators, parking lots, roadways, site lighting, and storm and sanitary sewer lines.
  • Norton Commons Elementary School — The first new JCPS school since 2008 will open in the Norton Commons neighborhood at the start of the 2016-17 school year. This school has energy-efficient LED lights with motion sensors and geothermal heating and air conditioning units in each classroom. Another unique feature of the school is that it is one of only two schools in the U.S. that have partnered with the YMCA. The school will connect to the Norton Commons YMCA through the gym and will benefit from additional activities sponsored by the organization for the school and the community.

AES is proud of all the ways we help keep our community on the leading edge. These upgrades will provide students with better spaces to learn and develop the skills necessary to become the leaders of tomorrow.
