A nearly $70 million renovation project will give Kosair Children’s Hospital improved neonatal and pediatric intensive care units, upgraded pediatric cardiac surgery operating rooms, a revamped main entrance and a new elevator. The improvements are expected to enhance patient care at Kosair Children’s. In addition to the NICU upgrades, the downtown hospital’s pediatric intensive care unit is being expanded as a part of the renovation project. The ICU will expand to 38 beds from 26. New beds in the unit will be used for pediatric cardiac intensive care. Also, pediatric cardiac surgery suites are being upgraded.

Other major changes include a large, new elevator, The new elevator is being built onto the outside of the building, along with a new entryway. The hospital lobby will receive security upgrades, and new generators and other mechanical upgrades are planned.
